Sam's bad luck continues...
“When am I going to get this monkey off my back?” asked Sam after another disappointing end to a race on Saturday. Qualifying didn’t go as well as Sam would have liked—he ended up with the 11th fastest time. The top 4 got inverted, but this didn’t affect Sam’s starting position. Racing was immediately side by side at the drop of the green flag. Sam had just made a great move on the front stretch, overtaking 2 cars on the outside, when the 16 car of Keene spun around causing a huge wreck. The 26 car of Cope went to the wall as did Winchell’s 57 car. Bruns’ 4b car was beyond repair and done for the night.
With Sam on his tail, the 48 car braked suddenly to avoid the wreck, leaving Sam with nowhere to go but into the 48’s rear end. Sam’s car came into the pits with a badly damaged radiator, leaky hoses, a bent main oil line and without a nose, so the VCR team decided to call it a day.
The disappointment showed on Sam’s face, but he will be back for the next race at Lakeland on September 2nd. Be sure to watch out for Sam at some up-coming New Smyrna local shows. Come cheer him on for the last few races of the season!
