Sam unveils new car and has a great race

Sam unveiled the newly designed #73 for its first race at Orlando Speedworld on Friday night. The car looked great. Terry from Pro-graphics did a great job of designing and creating all of the graphics.

Testing went okay, but more work needed to be done to speed up the car. Qualifying went well, even though Sam qualified in 9th place, putting him on the inside 5th row.

At the drop of the green flag Sam made his move forward. He settled into 6th and patiently waited. He got by his good friend Patrick Conrad and spent most of the race in 5th, waiting for an opportunity to advance.

There were many cautions throughout the race. At one point Sam felt the heat from behind him on a restart, but his car settled down again. Sam’s race was running perfectly, his car totally unscathed, as he waited it out. However, as the laps ran down, Sam’s car deteriorated and was finally overtaken by David Rogers.

With only 2 laps to go the leaders clustered together, but only Drawdy was penalized and placed to the rear. This put Sam back in 5th. He had a near miss incident with the #77 and # 11 cars on the last lap, but managed to hold on to take 5th place at the Checkered flag.

Michael Sean Williams stood in for his father as crew chief and did a great job. The whole team had a great weekend and was extremely happy. Sam said after the race, “My Dickies Toyota Camry was good, but at the end I had no forward bite, and was just glad to finish the race without any damage to the car.”

Now Sam heads back up to North Carolina to begin racing there again. He won’t be racing until next weekend, as they will be traveling with Michael Faulk this weekend.
