Sam’s first race not the result he deserved

Due to a recent repaving, New Smyrna speedway was real slick during testing on Thursday night. By Friday, things seemed to improve, as Sam was back early to try again. There seemed to be only one groove on the track and it was toward the bottom.

Sam qualified in 2nd place, just 100th of a second out of pole. This put him on the outside—not a place we really wanted Sam to start on the first race of Speedweeks, however, he fell in nicely behind Boyd and the 2 car of Currelli at the drop of the green flag. Curelli took the lead, and the 54 car of Kevin Ingram was challenging Sam from behind. He was bumping Sam a bit too hard, so Sam was told to move over and let him by. As a result, Sam settled into 4th place. He had no one challenging him from behind, so he just settled back and ran his own race.

Ingram got too aggressive again, only this time it was with Boyd, causing his car to spin and hit the wall. Boyd came back off the wall and hit Sam’s car on the right side just as he was passing below, causing only body damage. Sam drove back to the pits and parked the car for the night. His car was then stripped down and is now in the process of being repaired, which will be ready to race on Thursday night.

Sam’s bad luck continues... Yet again, he did nothing wrong—he just was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Things can only get better!

Come cheer Sam on Thursday night at New Smyrna!
