Weather creates problems for busy weekend
Last weekend was set to be Sam’s busiest weekend with him running the Tri-County 100-lap event on Friday night, and then 50 laps on Saturday night at Hickory. However, Mother Nature had another plan, and both races were cancelled due to weather. The Hickory race was reset to run on Sunday afternoon, in which the weather was beautiful, but there was very little time to practice.
Sam qualified 10th, placing him on the outside 5th row. At the drop of the green flag, He stayed patient and managed to get down on the inside lane for single file racing. Once he made it to 7th spot he started having some handling issues with the car, mainly when coming off the corners. The 10 car, while trying to pass Sam, gave him a slight tap, which knocked Sam loose. He managed to straighten up, but let a few cars pass him in the process. He settled back into 10th. A caution came out and Sam came down pit row for some much needed help with the handling. A spring rubber was put in and it seemed to help slightly. Sam stayed with the pack and took the checkered flag in 9th place.
“This is the hardest race I’ve run for a while. We will go back to the shop and fix whatever is wrong with the car. My team did a great job, but I just wish the Dickies Ford Fusion had performed better.”
Sam is racing again this weekend, at Tri-County’s 100-lap event on Friday night and the Hickory 50-lap event on Saturday night.
