Sam Comes Back with a Strong Run

There were 2 weeks of madness in which the team had
to get an engine built for the next race. Everyone
was in the workshop until 3am getting the car set
and ready to travel to Bronson, but Katrina had different
ideas–causing the race to be cancelled. So
the team had a short while to fine-tune the car,
testing on Thursday evening and more on Saturday
morning. After the engine was run in, the car was
parked at New Smyrna for Sam to run in Saturday night’s
race.
There were only features for the
evening and Sam started at the rear of the field. He
was told
to just run and
test the car to sort out any minor problems that may
occur in preparation for next week’s Goodyear
race. Sam’s main goal in racing is to get to
the front. He showed a great amount of patience, and
gradually worked his way through the field. He came
up behind Currelli in the #2 car in 2nd spot, and Rodgers
in the #26 car. With 2 laps to go, Currelli made a
charge for the front, Sam following closely behind
him. Sam then got side by side with Rodgers around
the track and at the checkered flag Rodgers beat Sam
by a nose, both behind Currelli. Currelli was put back
to 2nd place, but the race was given to Rodgers as
Currelli jumped the start. The team was very happy
with a 3rd place finish and is now all set for this
weekend’s race.
