Another Good Race for Watts

The practice session started on Friday night. Sam's
73 car was running well, so it was loaded
into
the trailer for Saturday's race and the team all
headed to the hotel for the night. Race day started
out well although
it was extremely hot. After Sam scrubbed in his
tires the team sat and waited for qualifying to begin.
Sam
qualified well but was at a disadvantage because
he went out 4th in line—the rest of the
pack
knew what times they had to beat—so he ended up qualifying
11th. The field was
inverted
that but didn't
affect Sam. At the drop of the green flag he went
high, just missing a minor wreck. Sam quickly moved
up to 9th position. The 31 car of Greg Kaock was
being held up by both Sam and the
62 car. The 31 car tried everything to get
past #62 but eventually was warned with the black flag
for tapping him. So he moved over, allowing
Sam to take the spot. Sam also had to try to get
past the 62. He finally succeeded, with Kaock
close on his tails.
Sam then started to close in on
the lead
pack. After a few cautions and with about 10 laps
to go, a red flag fell to clean up the track after
some
oil was spilt. At the drop of the green with 10 laps
to go Sam tucked in behind Clouser and just followed
the leaders as the race came to a close. Sam was
having engine loss of power toward the end of the
race, which opened the door for the 31 of Kaock to
pass him. Watts did
manage to hang onto 7th place. The car was totally
unscathed,although a new engine is now needed for this
weekend to race.
This weekend race is Bronson speedway on Sat 27th.
The
points standings have now changed as every racer
has dropped their worst race finish. This now puts
Sam in 4th place
