Sam took 2nd place in the Fastruck
race Saturday night. He qualified 9th fastest but because
of the field inversion he started outside pole. He led
the race for 12 laps but got caught behind back markers
and was overtaken. He stayed in 2nd position for the
rest of the race and came home a very happy 2nd place.
Kevin Williams, the car owner, was overjoyed. Sam will
only be able to be Hotshot one more time. Please continue

Orlando FL. - A beautiful day fell
into night as the opening race for the FASTKIDS and
FASTRUCK series for 2005 became reality. The season
was underway with an exciting battle in both divisions.
Qualifying would be the first Order
of business, as the FASTKIDS would trip the clock first
and it would be David Wilson grabbing the fast qualifier
award. New this year for the youngsters is an inversion,
with seven trucks in the event a 0 or 3 was placed in
the draw and the three was pulled by Wilson.
The FASTRUCK qualifying was up next
and it would be James Wright III who would take the
fast qualifier award. He was then sent to draw for his
inversion. A 0, 6, 8 and 10 were put in the bottom of
cups with soda in the cups. James selected a cup drank
the soda and it reviled a number for inversion, He was
not that excited when he reached the bottom of his cup
because it was the dreaded 10. That would place Billy
Barstow on the pole for the 50 Lap main event.
The FASTKIDS would be first for there
25 lap affair. Levi Hobbs would start from the pole
and lead early laps before David Wilson would make a
great inside pass to take the top spot and never looked
back. Only a couple minor spins slowed the event as
the youngsters ran a good race. A couple new first time
drivers gained experience and showed they will be ready
to challenge for wins later in the season. Wilson would
take the checkered ahead of Levi Hobbs and Spencer Taylor.
After several local features 25 FASTRUCK
Pro division trucks would take to the track for a 50
Lap battle. Billy Barstow and Sam
Watts would start on the front row. On the
battle into turn one Sam Watts
would grab the lead. The opening 12 laps would go green
before the races first caution, and lapped traffic came
into play for the leader. Watts
trying to move thru the lapped traffic got hung up and
that allowed George Gorham Jr. to make a move by him
and grab the lead from his third place starting spot.
It would remain Gorham Jr., Watts
with Gary Foxworth, Sean Bass and George Morales rounding
out the top five. Several cautions for spins and fluid
on the track when Tommy King fell out with a transmission
problem would slow the event.
Several spotters reported fluid leaking
from the leaders truck. FASTRUCK officials pulled and
checked him twice for fluid and none was found. The
final caution would come out on lap 47 to set up a three
lap dash. Watts
tried all he had to make a move but could not get by
Gorham Jr. who would take the series opening win. Watts,
Foxworth, Morales who earlier was able to get by Bass,
and Bass rounded out the top five finishers.
"We changed a transmission today,
had motor problems and then to get the win, this is
just cool" stated Gorham Jr. In victory lane.
"I want to thank all the drivers
tonight, they really did a good job out there. This
place is tight and pretty much everyone drove patient
and clean. I think for the opening show on this tight
bullring things went pretty well and we had a real good
show for the fans" remarked race director Rick
Bristol.
"We look forward to next Sunday's
race at Charlotte County Speedway with the Sprint Challenge
and the FASTRUCK series. Race #2 can only get better
from here" he added.
The series does move on to Charlotte
Next Sunday afternoon with racing at 2 p.m. The series
then heads to Hialeah the following week Saturday March
19th, before a couple of weeks off.
