Samsula, Fla. (October 10, 2004) Saturday
night there were alot of smiles at New Smyrna Speedway
as the "After Disaster" FREE night of racing saw many
come out and chase their stress away. All fans were
admitted free and it showed in the capacity that alot
of people needed a welcomed break from the stress of
hurricanes and damages to their lives.
Not only were they treated to a night of some really
good racing but also door prizes and one lucky fan and
one lucky driver took home $466.00 from the 50-50 purse.
Michael Williams brought out his new No. 32 Super Late
to win the Super Late Model feature. Fain Skinner and
Jacob Warren added to the show with visiting Al Berry
who usually runs at Columbia Motorsports Park. A.J.
Factor brought his Super Late that he races for his
little girl's illness and did a great job of coming
home fourth.; And Jack Lenzen had his first ride in
a Super Late taking sixth place.
Chuck Burkhalter was at New Smyrna getting ready for
next weekend's Goodyear Challenge Late Model 100. Burkhalter
took the early lead and won the feature followed by
Don Hess, Troy Atkins, Sam
Watts and Jeff Colburn.
Jamie Skinner took his first feature Open Wheel Modified
win in style. Skinner was in good company as Brad May
made a great challenge for the lead but just could not
pass Skinner. Jerry Symons had his ever popular #66
out and came home third followed by Rob Underwood and
Bobby Blake. In Victory Lane Skinner said he had not
had this much fun in a long time and gave recognition
to his friends for helping him.
Donny Williams and Dale Clouser put on another great
Sportsman show as they went nose-to-tail for the win.
Clouser took the win last week but it was Williams in
Winner's Circle this week. Mike Soukup, John Nusbaum,
and Bryan Dula rounded out the top five.
Twenty three Super Stocks ran the 50 lap Super Stock
feature with Ron Whaley taking the win. Coming back
after too long of an absence was the 2003 Super Stock
Champion Charlie Collins who tried to pass Whaley but
just didn't have it Saturday night. Collins had to settle
for second place. Jack Lenzen, Brent Brown and Jason
Foster filled out the top five. What a great race and
the fans loved it!!!!
Ted "Mr. Mini Stock" Vulpius took the Mini Stock win.
Brian Bellaw really tried but suffered a blown engine
in the race. Ben Cutler Jr. took second followed by
Rex Christensen, Alli Owens, and Chad Carpenter. Sixth
place Mark Broat was the lucky one as he went home with
the $466 from the 50-50 driver half. Mark was all smiles
as he walked away from the pay window Saturday night.
Strictly Stocks got a treat Saturday night as they were
the first feature on the program. Taking the win was
Mike Wofford followed by Curtis Smith, Chris Guidry,
Nick Boley and Larry Cuddy. Fans really liked this class
and found it to really have alot of action.
